Reaching New Highs: Alternative Therapies for Drug Addicts

Abstract

With the exceedingly low rate of success of orthodox drug rehabilitation programs, any rehabilitation intervention, however far outside the mainstream, has an interested audience. In this small volume of 92 pages with an annotated bibliography of another 116 pages, the author, (a medical anthropologist) presents us with viable alternative methodologies that have been employed in other cultures -- including Buddhist, Malay, and Native-American -- as well as therapies advanced through alternative treatments like acupuncture, biofeedback and herbal medication.
